Duo Kurbasy
Songs from the Ukrainian forests
Despite the war, the Ukrainian Kurbasy ensemble has chosen to stay in Lviv, and only go on shorter tours abroad. And - since Ukrainian men are not allowed to leave the country, it is now the two female members of the ensemble who make up Duo Kurbasy.
During the pandemic in 2020, when everything was shut down, the ensemble developed a duo repertoire for the two singers Nataliia Rybka-Parkhomenko and Mariia Oneshchak. This happened in the deep forests around Lviv, and the title gave itself: Songs from the Ukrainian forests. (Songs from the Ukrainian Forest).
In song cycles that follow the calendar, the two singers explore the rich folk music treasure of Ukraine. With the characteristic and well-known pressed song harmonies, accompanied by unique instruments, they convey songs and ballads from different regions of Ukraine. The songs are connected to stories and legends from both the real world and the underground. The duo also brings anti-war songs and new military songs, which depict the destroyed Ukraine we see today and in many ways draw a musical line from an archaic past to the present. They have also created their own flower for the concert. It symbolizes life, love and grace.
