Percussion with precision and elegance

The three female percussionists in Korean groove& are breaking new ground with what they call new dimensions of gugak. Gugak is the collective term for all major Korean national music and dance traditions, from court music or folk songs, to shamanic rituals or theater. groove& is part of a new generation of Korean musicians who cross borders and combine several of the traditions of Korea with urban and modern directions. groove& is also a kind of cultural rebellion against the fact that there are so few female percussionists in the Korean gugak tradition.

The trio uses many different instruments, and has developed its own unique style where they tastefully soften and color the ancient traditions with pulsating rhythms of today. A concert with groove& is like a journey through different themes, through intricate arrangements and improvisation, through virtuoso and artistic sequences, all woven together into a sensual whole. This is not just music, it is also artistry at the highest level!
