Helga Myhr | Norway
The folk musician who has 'everything'
Helga Myhr is last year's winner of the Hardanger fiddle class A at the National Competition. In other words, right now she is the best we have on our national instrument – and in addition she is skilled both as a singer and a contemporary musician. In music circles, across genres, it is said that Helga Myhr simply has EVERYTHING as a musician.
She grew up in Hallingdal, in the well-known Myhr family, with parents and sisters who are all involved in folk music and dance at a high level. She herself plays and sings in several constellations, and is an established and not least sought-after musician in several genres. This year she will release her second solo album, with repertoire from her home region – and especially songs she has after Egil Syversbråten, whom she holds as her closest teacher and inspiration. On the album she has focused on songs and song forms that are rarely used today, and at the concert Helga will present songs she has worked on from childhood until recent times.
We look forward to hearing Helga Myhr in intimate Trapp Ned in Sentrum Sør! The room in the little yellow house is one of our smallest arenas, so it's important to secure tickets in advance.
