Sam Lee | UK

With a heart for nature and English folk songs

Nature lover and environmentalist Sam Lee is a fearless and creative singer who has spent the last 20 years pioneering the rich British folk song tradition and giving it a future. He collects and interprets folk songs, and is particularly known for creating unique musical experiences in the great outdoors. With original arrangements and personal delivery, he blurs the boundaries between traditional and contemporary music. His latest album, songdreaming (2024), was named European Album of the Year by Songlines magazine.

Sam Lee is widely used on radio and TV. He composes music and has provided songs for several major feature films. As a change agent in the music industry, he has helped start Music Declares Emergency, and he collaborates with Earthpercent, among other things by giving them a share of the income from recorded albums.

His singing career has taken him to major festivals and stages such as Glastonbury, Roskilde, Rudolstadt, Colours of Ostrava, Celtic Connections, WOMADelaide and Folk Holidays. In the Nordic countries he has been heard at Farsund Folk Festival and EtnoSoi! in Helsinki – and now he can add Førdefestivalen to this nice list!

You can hear Sam in several formats at the festival. If you join the hiking trip to Lisjehesten on Wednesday 1 July, you will hear Sam Lee in his true element - in nature. The day after he will be at the opening concert, and on Friday he will play with a full band in the Theatre Hall in Nynorskhuset. There is nothing to look forward to.
