Førdefestivalen 2019: 30 years without borders!
HOOK back to Førde in July!
Førdefestivalen releases the theme and first artists for the anniversary festival in 2019.
With the slogan 'The world is coming' Førde !' has Førdefestivalen for 30 years has been a musical melting pot between fjord and mountain. In all these years, the audience at the festival has been able to experience music and cultures they didn't know about (or knew they liked). They have enjoyed the program so much that they have returned year after year, and have helped build a festival success that is talked about far beyond Førde's, yes, the country's borders. - Førdefestivalen has remained true to the folk music profile, and around this the festival has built up a very loyal core audience that trusts the quality and program of the festival, says Per Idar Almås, who took over as director from Hilde Bjørkum in the autumn.
-With this year's theme, 30 YEARS WITHOUT BORDERS, we will celebrate that Førdefestivalen For 30 years, we have been breaking down boundaries between cultures and musical traditions in the world, says Almås, who believes that the audience at the festival has experienced the universal language of folk music, across cultural, geographical, economic, political and religious divides and borders.
Popular reunions at anniversary gala
In connection with the 30th anniversary, the festival also wanted to give something extra to the audience, so in December they asked their followers on Facebook to make suggestions on artists they want to look back on the scene in Førde "Among the many proposals that came in, we have selected a group of anniversary artists who, in addition to their own concert, will be presented at this year's festival gala, Saturday, July 6," says the director.
TRIACEL
The Polish star trio KROKE was requested by many. -They were here in 1998 and 2010, and it will be a great honor to have them back, says Almås. Other anniversary artists are Swedish TRIAKEL , and the Swedish-Norwegian party band SVER . The latter gave a fantastic concert at the international industry fair WOMEX in October. From Serbia we have invited MARKO MARKOVIC BRASS BAND . Marko Markovic must be considered one of the best trumpet players in the world, and he was also here in 2010, then as part of his father, Boban Markovic, his band.

Strong female voices
Førdefestivalen continues its long tradition of presenting strong female voices. THE FORBIDDEN ORCHESTRA are five female musicians from different musical traditions who have joined forces to promote equality and musical freedom of expression. -The fact that they play instruments that were/are initially forbidden to women, underlines the message of the project, says Almås, who has also secured the newest and hottest fad name in the world, SARA CORREIA , for Førde .
The new festival director obviously has more in store, both in terms of reunions and artists and other, new names. -The anniversary program is still in the making, and I can reveal that we are working on a couple of key changes compared to previous years, concludes Almås, who aims to have everything in place by the time the entire program is launched on Thursday, April 4th at Larris Scene in Førde .
