Seckou Keita replaces Solo & Indré

At the beginning of May we received the incredibly sad news that Solo Cissokho had died, only 56 years old. Solo Cissokho came to Norway from Senegal in the 80s and from the very beginning became a beloved and popular musician in this country. He was on the program on Førdefestivalen many times, in different constellations. This year we were happy to hear him in his new duo, with the kanklés player Indré Jurgelevičiūtė from Lithuania. This was not supposed to happen. We send our warmest thoughts to Solo Cissokho's loved ones, who are feeling deep sorrow. Solo left a big void in the large musical family in Norway, but the memory of everything he created lives on. We shine peace upon his memory.

Seckou Keita replaces the Solo & Indré concert - Friday, July 5th in Førde .

To replace the concert that was planned with Solo & Indré, we were lucky enough to get hold of Seckou Keita, the nephew of Solo Cissokho. There was nothing he wanted more than to come and play in Førde for his uncle, who was his great idol and teacher. Initially, Seckou Keita will play solo (!), but we should not rule out that he will invite others in the Cissokho family with him. Time will tell.

Seckou Keita is considered one of the most exciting and innovative kora players in the world today. In Førde We have experienced him twice before: The first time as far back as 1996, when he participated in the international talent project at the festival, then in 2015 in a duo with Welsh harpist Catrin Finch. Although the starting point for Keita's third visit to Førde is of the sad kind, there is every reason to look forward to another meeting with this incredibly charismatic griot from Senegal.

The concert with Seckou Keita is in the Festsalen in Førdehuset , Friday 5 July at 1:30 PM. You can buy tickets HERE
