KARTELLET PREMIERE OF DANSE STAUR, DANSE STAUR

"Women dance with women and men dance with men, or pole dancing, as it's called. Imagine if this was the rule, just like women showering together and men showering together," says Sigurd Johan Heide, artistic director of Kartellet , who will be Førdefestivalen with the dance performance 'Danse staur, danse staur' in July. 'Danse staur, danse staur' was the theme for Førdefestivalen in 2020, as part of the theme 'Gender at Play', but after the festival was canceled last year, the premiere was postponed until this year.

Kartellet is a dance ensemble that is making a mark in Norway with artistic productions at a high level. Initially, they are only male dancers, but in the upcoming performances Førde For the first time, they have women as dancers.

Panel debate

Not many people are aware that 'dancing the staur' is an old northern Norwegian tradition that dates back to the Lofoten fishing season, but many will argue that it is still something we react to. It is still unusual - yes, even controversial. And this is the topic of a panel debate we are arranging after Kartellet's dance performance. More details about the panel debate will follow.
