Traditional and newly written old-fashioned dance music from Gudbrandsdalen
The Gudbransdølenes Spelmannslag plays traditional music from the Gudbrandsdalen Valley, and is one of the most successful fiddler groups in Norway in the landscape performance category.
All members are from Gudbrandsdalen and live in Oslo. The fiddlers' group works to find the essence of Gudbrandsdalen music, and wants to use the local subtleties from different local traditional areas in Gudbrandsdalen. By taking the solo tradition as a starting point, they experiment with nuances in the interaction, such as ornamentation, older tonality and stroke variations. In this way, they have managed to develop their own musical expression as a fiddlers' group. They focus on maintaining the danceability and rhythmic characteristics of a genuine expression, finding the balance between the arranged, rehearsed and the spontaneous and playful. In 2015, they released the album OSLO, with both old and new music from their home region.
On Førdefestivalen The performers in Gudbrandsdølenes Spelmannslag will form the core of the large project Nordic Sound Folk Orchestra, and they will also offer dance in Førdehuset !
