Jigme Drukpa
Versatile musician from the Himalayas
Jigme Drukpa comes from Wongchelu in eastern Bhutan, the country that measures its progress in "Gross National Happiness"! Bhutan is located in the Himalayas in South Asia, far from Norway. He is nevertheless well acquainted with Norwegian conditions, since he studied folk music at the Raulandsakademiet and majored in ethnomusic from the Grieg Academy in Bergen in the 90s. After many years in Norway, he speaks Norwegian well, and has toured several times with the National Concerts (now Kulturtanken).
Drukpa is a well-known and beloved musician and educator in his homeland, and an ambassador for local folk music. Drukpa has also toured internationally and has released the album Endless Songs from Bhutan.
Jigme Drukpa is a versatile musician who sings, dances and plays several types of flutes (lim), lute (dranyen) and mouth harp (kongtha) from Bhutan. He often performs his own poems and teaches local folk dances from his homeland. As a musician, he has a very good ability to connect with the audience, and he enjoys performing especially well for children and the elderly.
During the festival you will meet Jigme both as an instructor at a music workshop for children and as a musician at the new, spectacular viewpoint on Gaularfjellet, where we arrange Sunday trips!
