The superstars of the klezmer world are coming Førde .
The Klezmatics are the world's most famous klezmer band, and this year they are celebrating their 30th anniversary with a record release and concert tours. They have dozens of record releases, world tours and a Grammy Award (2006) behind them. For 30 years they have used Jewish music as a voice for social justice, for change, for “the underdogs” and the oppressed. For 30 years they have questioned prejudice and expressed resistance to fundamentalism and established dogmas in society. Since the band emerged in the East Side of New York in the 80s, the Klezmatics have aimed to show that Jewish music does not have to be nostalgic, narrow or kitsch.
Jewish klezmer is Eastern European party music, and lives in the diversity of musical cultures in the world today. With the anniversary album Apikorsim - Heretics, The Klezmatics lay the foundation for new decades of rebellious music. Thanks to this band, Jewish music and culture have had a renaissance in modern times, and it is likely that the musicians will continue to speak out for the refugees and workers for many years to come. Their songs will still mourn lost “wars” - and praise everything there is to enjoy in life!
- On a good night, they can be ranked among the best bands in the world (New York Time Out)
