Sunnfjord dance acts and traditions

For many years, Indre Sunnfjord Spelemannslag has distinguished itself as one of the country's foremost fiddling teams, and is actively involved in concerts and dance performances. Its track record includes a number of competition victories, and the team can also boast extensive recruitment work in games and dance. Among its members are several prominent soloists and groups that have made their mark both locally and internationally. Battle music from Sunnfjord is a natural focus for the team, but the repertoire also includes music from the rest of Western Norway.

Indre Sunnfjord Spelemannslag was founded on February 9, 1969. The first rehearsals were held at Heimyrkjeskulen in Vassenden, with Einar Bakkane from Naustdal as musical director. In 1973, Sigmund Eikås from Jølster took over as musical director, and, with the exception of one year, has been ever since!
