Tradition and innovation hand in hand
We are extremely happy to have secured the fado singer LINA for the 34th edition of Førdefestivalen . Lina had a fabulous success with the Amália Rodriges repertoire she produced in 2020 in collaboration with the renowned guitarist and producer Raül Refree. It resulted in a solid international breakthrough and a number of music awards and nominations. In the new year, the follow-up will be released, and this time LINA will delve into the poetry of Camões, one of the greatest references in Portuguese culture. In addition, she will make her debut as a composer. LINA chooses her producers carefully, and this time it is the British Justin Adams who is the chosen one. He has names like Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin), Rachid Taha, Tinariwen and Souad Massi on his list. Adams grew up in Egypt, and has worked with artists in different cultures and especially explores the connections between blues and traditions in Mahegreb music. These African rhythms are also present in fado, and are something he has brought with him into the collaboration with LINA. The whole thing is topped off with tasteful arrangements by musician and composer John Baggott, who has worked with, among others, artists such as Massive Attack and Portishead.
With the new album, LINA continues her vision of renewing Portuguese fado, which has long since been inscribed on UNESCO's list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. She is constantly looking for ways to modernize fado for new listeners and new generations in her own way. She took the audience's breath away with her first project, and there is every reason to have high expectations when Lina takes to one of our biggest stages, the Great Hall in Førdehuset .
