Lena Jonsson Trio
Rooted and charismatic folk music
Lena Johnsson has the charisma of a rock star and is one of Sweden's most dynamic and innovative folk musicians. With an open and curious musical mind, she draws inspiration from multiple genres and combines her in-depth knowledge of Swedish traditional music with the sounds of rock, pop, jazz, American old-time and bluegrass.
Lena Jonsson grew up in the folk music community in Hälsingland, and she was playing in bands as early as 11 years old. She is educated at the Stockholm Academy of Music, Berklee College of Music, and received the highest award in Swedish folk music, riksspelman, in 2008. Her debut album, 'Places' (2019), was nominated for a Swedish Grammy, and in 2021 she won in the 'Folk of the Year' category with the follow-up 'Stories from the Outside', with the Lena Jonsson Trio. In 2023, the album 'Elements' was released, also to rave reviews, and nominated for this year's Grammis in Sweden in the folk music category.
In Lena Jonsson Trio, powerful fiddle playing is woven together with varied and sonorous guitar playing and driving bass rhythms. In an interplay that oozes joy of playing, the trio delivers musical brilliance with humor, empathy and charisma.
