Ajaz Ul Haq - Pakistan
Hang glider with world record
For centuries, kites have been important in culture, religion, and entertainment. In Pakistan, spring is marked by a kite festival, where high-flying, brightly colored kites adorn the sky. They symbolize joy, freedom, and new life.
Ajaz Ul Haq is a world-leading expert in both kite flying and origami. He has set a world record in kite flying with an impressive 1109 kites on one string , a record that was set in Drammen in 2023. For several decades, he has organized kite festivals, performances and workshops for children, young people and adults – both in Norway and internationally.
With a background as a biologist and researcher in Pakistan, and a burning interest in how creative activities can contribute to mental and physical development, Ul Haq has developed a unique teaching program where science and creativity meet. For over 15 years, he has researched Norwegian climate conditions to develop the best materials for kite flying in the Nordic region.
Ul Haq is also a certified origami instructor from Japan , approved by the Nippon Origami Association, and the only one in Norway recommended by the Japanese Embassy in Oslo. He has practiced origami for over 20 years and has organized exhibitions and workshops in several countries, often in collaboration with embassies and cultural institutions.
For Ul Haq, both kite flying and origami are more than hobbies – they are educational tools and art forms that create mastery, understanding and joy in both young and old.
