Besh o droM - Hungary
"Besh o droM" is reminiscent of the proverb "to go one's own way", but directly translated means "to sit on the road". However, it is also a pun on "to roll..." a joint...
The starting point for Besh o droM is folk music from Transylvania, Armenia, Bulgaria and Romania, which they mix with elements from Egyptian, Lebanese, Jewish and Greek folk music. Almost like a statement. Music from countries that don't communicate very well together today, but that in their music work together in peace and harmony. The music is both playful and serious, funny and moving, authentic and urban and east and west at the same time.
For the past twenty years, Besh o droM has toured all over the world and developed into the dynamic and steady folk band that will once again play at Førdefestivalen . The Balkan rhythms are formed by drums, saxophone, bass and various types of percussion together with beautiful vocals. This gives us the fast and complex Eastern European beats the audience in Førde can swing to. If there's one thing Besh o droM can do, it's play up for a party.
In 2013, Besh o droM played for the first time in Førde , they had an outdoor concert in the park, and it rained. So this year they will play indoors, both at the opening concert and at Larris Scene, where they will have a split concert with Finnish Antti Paalanen. This means that the festival audience will have to prepare their dancing shoes, take a nap before the evening, and be ready for a Friday night in true Balkan spirit.
