Collaboration with Førde cultural school

One of the instruments the festival must procure for this year's festival is a harp for Catrin Finch. She will be performing together with Seckou Keita.

Førdefestivalen has over the years had a close and good collaboration with Førde cultural school about instruments and equipment. Every year the festival has a job of providing some instruments for the musicians who will play. This is especially true for large instruments that are difficult or risky to transport to Førde This year, the festival has invested in a double bass and a percussion instrument - and through the collaboration with the cultural school, the students there get to use these professional instruments for their concerts.

- Good instruments do not benefit from being used a few times a year, then left standing and gathering dust in a warehouse. That is why we have entered into a collaboration with the cultural school, so that they use the instruments, store them, insure them and keep them intact, says Bjørkum. In addition, instruments and equipment are leased to others, such as Opera Nordfjord and Jazz på Jølst.

- By the way, for this summer's festival we need to get a harp for Catrin Finch, who will be performing with Seckou Keita. Harps are rarely included in the festival program, so it probably won't be an option to buy one. Here we are focusing on renting a good instrument and getting it in place in time, says the festival director, and is confident that it will go well.
