The fall program at FolkJazzScena
The fall at FolkJazzScena is underway. In September we got to experience the duo Odde & Holmen at Ungdomhuset Skogstjerna in Markane in the barn at Jølstramuseet. It was exactly the kind of treat of a concert we hoped for. The two driving good communicators of folk music traditions from Valdres and Gudbrandsdalen, delivered as expected, and many satisfied audience members also secured a signed copy of their recent album, Sumarmorgon.
Solfrid Molland in Førde church
The next concert on the program this fall is with pianist, composer and singer Solfrid Molland, who is also currently recording. She released the album Forvandling on September 30th and will be giving her very first concert in Førde with a bunch of über-talented musicians, namely Hayden Powell on trumpet, Mats Eilertsen on double bass and Torbjørn Økland on guitar. The concert with Solfrid Molland is in Førde church Sunday 23 October at 8:00 PM. Tickets are on sale at TicketCo.no.
The album Forvandling has received glowing reviews, including in the newspaper Vårt Land, where Olav Solvang writes:
There are not many records like this, which transport the listener to a state where all senses are sharpened, reality moves closer, and time seems to stop. It is a rare discovery. The cover says: "In the middle of the forest there is an unexpected glade that only those who have lost their way find" (Tomas Tranströmer). In addition to a voice that resonates in our deepest strings, the musicians Hayden Powell (trumpet), Mats Eilertsen (double bass), Torbjørn Økland (guitar and mandolin), and Nils Økland (fiddle) contribute with a colorful musical backdrop .

The local newspaper Tysvær, in Solfrid Molland's home municipality, calls the album a masterpiece, and gives it a 6!

Collaboration with Rom for Ord in November
At the end of November, FolkJazzScena is collaborating with Rom for ord, the Nynorsk city. Førde is committed to the dissemination of Nynorsk literature, about three poetic concerts with Benedicte Maurseth and Ruth Lillegraven. Before she had even published a collection of poetry, Ruth Lillegraven was called by many the queen of new poems. Now comes the first collection, and it is in connection with this that Rom for ord has invited her to Sunnfjord, where she will meet children and young people during the day, during school hours, while in the evenings she will be heard together with folk musician Benedicte Maurseth.
Here are the times and locations for the concerts:
Trivelshagen in Sandane - Friday, November 25th at 8:00 PM
Jakob Sande Løa - Saturday, November 26th at 8 pm
Svidal village hall - Sunday 26 November at 3 pm
There are also other local partners involved, namely Gloppen and Jølster libraries, and the Nynorsk mission in Dale.
You can find more information about the concerts on Rom for ord's Facebook page.
