Crown Princess Mette-Marit renews patronage

Førdefestivalen has received a letter from the Royal House stating that HRH Mette-Marit is continuing the patronage of the festival for a new period, from 2016 to 2020. – This is a welcome announcement to receive at the start of a new year and we consider this a great honor, says festival director Hilde Bjørkum. – The patronage also emphasizes Førdefestivalen its position as an important cultural institution in our country; a Norway where year by year, indeed, almost day by day, we see the development of a more and more multicultural nation.

Førdefestivalen Its vision is to present the rich musical and cultural traditions from all over the world – and in this way open up to new experiences and new knowledge. At the same time, the goal is to be a developer and a showcase for Norwegian folk music. – With today's social picture, Førdefestivalen more important and more relevant than ever, says Bjørkum, who is currently putting the final touches on the program for this year's Førde Festival, the 27th in a row. This year, the festival will be held July 6-10. The theme for this year's festival will be revealed on February 4.

Førdefestivalen has had royal patronage since 2006. For the first five years, Queen Sonja was the festival's high patron, and since 2011 it has been HRH Mette-Marit.
