Here is the fall program:
Benedicte Maurseth/Berit Opheim: TIME ASSIGNMENT
Thursday, September 21 at 6:30 PM | Ålhus Church
Walkers, runners, lyre songs and newly composed beautiful ballads about the sun and the most essential things in our lives. Berit Opheim and Benedicte Maurseth with a new folk music piece, and a wonderful interaction with Rolf Lislevand and Håkon Mørch Stene. Immediately after the concert , Rom for ord invites you to a literary evening at the rectory with the author Bergsveinn Birgisson in conversation with the Jølster priest Silje Sørebø.
Inspired by the Dream Song
The idea for Tidekverv was Benedicte Maurseth's, and the inspiration came from the powerful Draumkvedet. - The poetic form of the Draumkvedet , and not least the musical ritual, which lies in the fact that the poem is mainly performed on Christmas Day every year, sowed the idea in my mind. With Tidekverv , we will pay tribute to this older poetic form with new folk music and perform the music around the days when the sun is longest and shortest in the sky, when the sun turns and day and night are of equal length: Summer solstice and winter solstice, spring equinox and autumn equinox, says Maurseth.
The beautiful lyrics in the ballads are written by the poets Bergsveinn Birgisson and Erlend Nødtvedt , and depict everything that ripens and grows, that one "wants to love, sing, believe", the summer bounty, the harvest, and finally the rising darkness, which ends with the refrain "I thank you, God, that the sun is turning, no matter what one believes".
The music has been arranged in collaboration with musicians Rolf Lislevand , today considered one of the world's leading lute players, and Håkon Mørch Stene , an award-winning percussionist at a high international level. The collaboration of these two has colored the folk musical expression in Tidekverv with impulses from both baroque, contemporary music and freer improvised music.
Tidekverv was premiered on the spring equinox during the Oslo Church Music Festival this year, and now Ålhus Church will be a wonderful setting for an autumn equinox concert - Thursday, September 21st.

Ahlberg, Ek & Roswall have in recent years established themselves as one of the most exciting players on the Swedish folk music scene. Rumors still circulate about the concert they had at Prestegarden in Førde as part of the festival's historic blue tour by bike. Ragnhild Furebotten - Never on a Sunday
Friday, October 13th - in collaboration with Jazz at Jølst
(place and time to come)
Ragnhild Furebotten is one of the few professional fiddle players from Northern Norway. But what a musician! Strong and charismatic, she conveys Northern Norwegian folk music with intensity, virtuosity and musical nerve. She is also not lacking in creativity! All of this is evident in the album Never on a Sunday , for which she received the Spellemannpris in 2011. Together with the best brass band in the country, Ragnhild Furebotten delivers traditional and original material in a way that gives the audience both "ståpels" and backslides!
Two of our leading jazz composers, Geir Lysne and Helge Sunde, are in charge of the arrangements. The collaboration between the three has given folk music a new look, and it bubbles with energy and joy from the first note. And humor. Ragnhild Furebotten's infectious laughter invites the male wind instruments to improvise and play. Without getting too full: This is a (folk music) concert out of the ordinary!
