"On the cutting and covering" - Sigmund Eikås and his music

Sigmund Eikås' name is inextricably linked to the Indre Sunnfjord Fiddlers' Association.

NEW PRODUCTION and Album Release!

Sigmund Eikås has a long track record as a top performer, teacher, organizer and composer, and has been honored with a number of awards for his contributions to folk music. On the occasion of his 70th birthday, the festival has taken the initiative to record a record and hold a gala concert featuring his best compositions.

Sigmund Eikås has 30 compositions to his credit, ranging from the older types of slåt such as springar and halling, to driving round dance slåts and lydarslåts. With his expertise in good dance performance and thorough knowledge and love of the Western Norwegian slåt tradition, Eikås's compositions are marked by an unfailing sense of form. His starting point is the musical tradition of Western Norway, but he has always composed with a strong individual character and originality.

The Eikås compositions are performed by performers from Sunnfjord who have all had Sigmund as a teacher and inspiration: Erlend Apneseth, Synnøve S. Bjørset, Gro Marie Svidal, Vidar Underseth and Dagfrid Vallestad. Sigmund's "own" fiddler group, Indre Sunnfjord Fiddler Group, is self-written, and so is the jubilee himself, both with his playing and good stories.

Speaker: Jostein Aardal

The album will be released on the record label Ta:lik.
