Ricardo Ribeiro

Fado's big male star to Førde

- This man is made of emotions! writes Alexandra Carita in Expresso newspaper. Ricardo Ribeiro is considered the hottest name on the Portuguese fado scene at the moment – now he is ready for concerts in both Nordfjord and Sunnfjord!

Ricardo grew up and went to school in Lisbon. He was introduced to fado at an early age, listening to Fernando Mauricio, Amália Rodrigues and Alfredo Marceineiro; stars who gradually became great role models for Ribeiro. His career began around 2001, when he was featured on an album paying tribute to Amália Rodrigues. Gradually, he was invited to sing with the greats, got film roles and received awards for best newcomer and best male fado singer in Portugal.

In 2013, Ricardo Ribeiro had enormous success with the album Largo de Mémoria. This was his international breakthrough. In 2015, he was nominated for Artist of the Year by the international magazine Songlines, along with Tony Allen, Julie Fowlis and other big names. In 2016, his second solo album, “Hoje é assim, amanhã não sei.” (Today is like this, tomorrow I don't know), was released, and his career continues to rise; Ricardo Ribeiro is becoming an increasingly prominent fado player. His voice is as if made for fado. Ribeiro is faithful to the genre, and is mostly accompanied by a classic fado trio with Portuguese guitar, fiddle and bass.

"I feel like tomorrow is yesterday and today is the revelation of my free and restless spirit."
Ricardo Ribeiro
"This album consolidates Ricardo Ribeiro's position as the finest male fadosinger of his generation." Gonçalo Frota, in Songlines Magazine
