Busi Ncube Band

Music ambassador from Zimbabwe

Busi Ncube from Zimbabwe is based in Oslo. Since she had success with her sister's band Llanga in Harare at the age of 19, she has established herself as one of the leading artists in Zimbabwe, and an important ambassador for the rich musical traditions of her home country. She came to Norway in 2001. She was a member of Womens Voice, along with Malika Maakouf Rasmussen and Chiwoniso Maraire*.

Zimbabwe has a particularly rich musical tradition, encompassing several languages, rhythm patterns, vocal traditions and numerous instruments. Busi NCube is not only versatile as a musician, but also has an extremely well-developed ear for languages. In addition to her mother tongue, Ndebele, she speaks Shona, Zulu, Xhosa and Chewa, all of which are spoken in her home country, and she also speaks both English and Norwegian. These excellent language skills have made it possible for her to study the traditions of the various ethnic groups in Zimbabwe, but not least to communicate these musical traditions to new groups both there and in other parts of the world.

Together with her Norwegian band, Busi Ncube has played at a number of festivals in Norway, and it is with great pleasure that we welcome her to Førde!

*Chiwoniso Maraire (1976-2013) var med i Førdefestivalen sitt internasjonale talentprosjekt i 1995.
