Caamaño & Ameixeiras | Galicia, Spain

Young power from Galicia

Sabela Caamaño and Antía Ameixeiras have come as a breath of fresh air to the Galician folk music scene. Since their inception in 2018, the duo has enjoyed great success both in Spain and internationally with their modernized and personal version of folk music and dance from Galicia. The traditional music and dance are at the core, but with great respect and flair they are arranged and combined with new elements, without losing the very essence.

Caamaño and Ameixeiras have solid musical training and impress with technical brilliance and musical presence. The result is an original and energetic expression that has been hailed as a long-awaited renewal of Galician folk music. The duo explores the intertwined roots of Galician, Basque, Balkan and Celtic musical traditions, creating a rich and vibrant soundscape.

They have also made a strong mark on the recording front. Their debut album, Aire! From 2021, gave them a great start with several record awards and resulted in collaborations with famous artists . Two years later they followed up with Quitar o aire, where they take the project further and stretch Galician and Iberian traditional music in new directions and into new musical landscapes. Caamaño & Ameixeiras is a young and daring duo, who challenge the framework of their own traditions. Together they create a living musical universe where the old ways are also the new.
