Basco & Jullie Hjetland - Denmark, Norway
Tasteful reinterpretation of Nordic folk music
With infectious energy, great virtuosity and creativity, the Danish folk roots band Basco has been a crowd-pleaser at festivals and concert stages across Europe for many years. On their latest project, they have found their groove with Norwegian/Danish singer Jullie Hjetland, who has her roots in Sogn, and created music that is more Nordic, more traditional and more modern than ever.
Basco and Hjetland have collaborated with several Scandinavian authors, poets and songwriters, and have taken texts from old sagas, folk tales and folk songs – mainly from Scandinavia and England. They take stories about all kinds of animals, werewolves, heroes and villains. Jullie Hjetland's characteristic voice conveys the light and dark sides of life, and Basco adds energetic and dynamic arrangements to a dense and tasteful soundscape that encompasses everything from the softest tones to raw power and intensity.
“They have created a sound that is as ugly and beautiful as it is delicate and detailed, as playful as it is powerful” - Songlines
