Øivind Vabø & Sigbjørn Apeland - Norway
Harding violin and tree organ – a lyrical combo
Øivind Vabø, is a native of Hardanger fiddle music. At the age of 5, he received his first fiddle from his father, Finn Vabø. He has a long competitive playing career, which started in the youngest class. In 1991, he played in the A-class for seniors, and has been active there as a representative of the Fiddler's Club Fjellbekken. He was apprenticed to Ingeleiv Kjærland Kvammen in Hardanger, and has been in the folk music community for many years, playing concerts and at dances in the Bergen area with his father and the fiddler's club.
Øivind Vabø continues a tradition that goes through, among others, the folk music collector Arne Bjørndal, and not least Jon Rosenlid, his grandfather Karl Vabø and his father Finn. He is known for his lyrical playing, but is also a very good dance fiddler who likes to play the 'old way'. Vabø has recently released the album Arv.
To Førde Vabø has with him none other than Sigbjørn Apeland, the master of the tree organ, and thus the stage is set for a soft and atmospheric interaction between two sparkling musicians who know each other well.
