Chango Spasiuk - Argentina

A cross-border mediator of the chamamé tradition

Argentine master musician Chango Spasiuk is an international star in the field of chamamé. In “Taco y suela: tradizione” , he highlights the founders of the chamamé tradition, which is much more than a musical genre: a living and diverse culture, connected to nature and steeped in spirituality.

Through his dissemination of chamamé, Chango Spasiuk has created a universal and common language between tradition and classical music, between modern nuances of jazz and electronica, between music and people across continents, and in 2020 chamamé was added to UNESCO's list of intangible cultural heritage.

With family roots from Ukraine, Chango Spasiuk knows even more today how important cultural resistance is – and how profound his art has an impact across borders. From his home region in northeastern Argentina, he has become one of the foremost representatives of this musical form, which reflects the culture from which it comes: an intense encounter between different cultures. Steeped in globalization, with the land of the Guarani people, Spanish cultural influence and Slavic ancestors, the magnetic accordionist has shone all over the world for over thirty years – from the most prestigious stages of "high culture" to the stages of popular music.

As an artist passionate about continuing tradition, he draws inspiration from other musical genres and from innovations in our globalized society – all in order to share the universality of the diverse culture he comes from. He does this through radio programs, TV, documentary series, film scores, artistic collaborations across genres and countries, concerts and sharing experiences through streaming...

A rich discography since 1989, national and international awards, praise in various media... Chango Spasiuk spreads the energy from his red earth all over the world!
