Hedin & Meidell - Sweden

Baroque violin and clavichord in intimate interaction

Hedin & Meidell have in recent years established themselves as a leading name on the Swedish and Nordic folk music scene. The repertoire has its origins in the 18th century, but extends all the way into our time. The music is shaped by Ida Meidell's many playing styles and impulses from near and far, and by Johan Hedin's unique way of accompanying and pushing the boundaries of what the klækharpa can express. They create a musical experience where old songs are given new life in close arrangements and a heartfelt interaction.

In 2023, the duo released the critically acclaimed debut album Klockarens musikaliska värld on Gammalthea, and in 2024 the follow-up Prowinciale was released on Smålands Musikarkiv. Ida's baroque violin and Johan's key harp create rich timbres as this duo moves through the changing forms of the slagen tradition.

The concerts with Hedin & Meidell take place at Reidar and Jorunn Knapstad's home, in the venerable Skrivargarden at Toene in Førde There are two concerts here with a limited number of seats.

Ida and Johan are also skilled dance musicians. You can experience this at one of the dance evenings in the Festival Hall.
