The Friel Sisters - Ireland
Seductive Irish folk music
Anna, Sheila and Clare Friel are traditional musicians from Donegal, in the northwest of Ireland. They have been involved in music all their lives, and as is often the case with musician siblings, they have developed an exceptional communication between themselves. They sing and play the fiddle, flute and bagpipes - and the repertoire is largely taken from their family and the Donegal area. They were born in Glasgow, but it is frequent trips to Ireland on all sorts of courses that have resulted in their musical development. They are now instructors themselves on the courses they took when they were younger.
Since the release of their debut album, they have played on various stages and festivals in Europe, America and Asia, and have been guest artists or toured with artists such as Altan, The Chieftains, Lúnasa, Sharon Shannon and Cherish the Ladies.
The arrows are still pointing upwards for The Friel Sisters, who in December 2024 released their third album, Northern Sky, and in January last year they played at the prestigious Celtic Connections festival.
