Tres Músicos - Norway, Mexico, Cuba
Three musicians with tons of instruments and ditto Latino music
The whole idea behind Tres Músicos is to bring out the incredibly rich musical traditions that have emerged as a result of cultural exchange across the Atlantic throughout history. As people have moved and taken their culture with them, new musical traditions have emerged on the Latin American continent.
The repertoire is based on thorough studies of individual styles. Polka and son jarocho from Mexico, Afro-Peruvian festejo, son cubano from Puerto Rico, candombe from Uruguay and cumbia from Colombia are just some of the rhythms on the menu at Tres Músicos. According to the trio, music is a fundamental social activity, which is why they love to involve the audience in both playing and singing – and of course dancing.
Authentic instruments also play an important role for Tres Músicos. Each style of music is presented on an instrument that belongs to the style in question. In other words, they frolic on both candombe drums, batá drums, the Peruvian cajon, congas, bongos, la quijada, i.e. donkey's jaw, and not least string instruments such as requinto, jarana, tres cubano, cuatro venezolano, charango, guitarrón and baroque guitar.
