Karl Seglem Folk Jazz Quartet

  • Løa, Jølstraholmen Vassenden Norway (map)

Jazz at Jølst 2025 will take place October 9-12, and Førdefestivalen is pleased to once again have a collaboration on one of the concerts at this fine jazz festival. This year we have the pleasure of presenting Karl Seglem's folk jazz quartet, at a completely new arena in Jølster, a Løa on Jølstraholmen, which appears in a completely new guise.

Norway's leading horn player and tenor saxophonist has an impressive drive to constantly explore the relationship between folk music and jazz – and everything around, everything outside. It is difficult to put a label on Karl Seglem. He has created his own sound universe, his own genre, so to speak. And music is a vital and personal form of expression for him. Much of the inspiration for the creative processes comes from Norwegian folk music and Norwegian mountains and fjords. The quartet presents music from several of his album releases, where the critically acclaimed Mytevegar, Nunatak, Ossicles and Nordic Balm are central. One can also become acquainted with new material. First performance! A soundscape where both mountain world, sand dunes, asphalt jungle, undulating forest and life-giving water can be heard. Convincingly outgoing, beautifully energetic, with poetic Nordic flair.

Karl Seglem - tenor sax, bouzouki, voice
Andreas Vold Løwe - keyboards
Anders Bitustøyl - bass
Kåre Opheim - drums
