Arne Osland new chairman of the board Førdefestivalen

Arne Osland has been appointed as the new chairman of the board of Førdefestivalen from 2019. Osland is the development director at UWC Red Cross Nordic in Flekke, and has been appointed to the board of directors by Sogn og Fjordane County Council for a period of 2 years. Arne Osland takes over from Tone Winje. She is stepping down at her own request.

Motivating to take the festival into a new phase

Arne Osland looks forward to taking on the position as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Førdefestivalen and lead the festival into a new phase with the new director, Per Idar Almås (from October 1, 2018). -The task will be to further develop the profile that has been created during the years Hilde Bjørkum has been director, says Osland and he finds it particularly motivating that the festival is a meeting place for local musical expressions, with the whole world as a horizon. -In that area, I feel that my experience from UWC comes into its own. Just as Førdefestivalen At UWC, we are committed to discovering and cultivating quality that is not bound by commercial considerations.

- Førdefestivalen brings out musical treasures on folk music's own terms, and folk music is something I have grown to love more and more, both as a means of conveying tradition, but also as a form that provides ample room for innovation. I am ready to listen and join the team, and I hope to do my part to give Førdefestivalen a direction.

Arne Osland has a master's degree in Scandinavian languages and literature from the University of Oslo, and before coming to Flekke, he was a teacher at UWC Atlantic College in the UK for several years. He sits on the board of the UN Association and is also a member of the municipal council in Fjaler.
