FREEDOM OF SPEECH - CONDITIONS AND LIMITS

THURSDAY, JULY 5TH, 9:30 AM - 4:30 PM AT SCANDIC SUNNFJORD HOTEL & SPA

Freedom of expression is under pressure, while its conditions and limits are being debated in many arenas. Globalization is accelerating and migration is increasing. People with different cultures, norms and values meet, but some feel offended if their expressions are perceived as attacks on their culture. Knowledge for a few is power, while knowledge for all is freedom. Fake news and alternative truths are new concepts that tell us that expressions are crucial to gaining power.

The debate around these issues is particularly important now, with a new culture report on the horizon in 2019. In the chapter on culture in the new government platform, democracy, diversity, the distribution of power and freedom of expression are central concepts. Do we see the contours of a new blue-green cultural policy? What consequences will political decisions have for our culture of expression?
