Instructors: Singers from Iberi Choir

Join us and explore Georgian song traditions! Georgia has ancient and strong song traditions that date back to pre-Christian times. Georgians have a great love for poetry and music, and use song for everything! They therefore have a rich song repertoire that includes everything from drinking songs, work songs, hymns and ballads. The songs vary from delicate and evocative to energetic and full of power.

Georgian singing is polyphonic and involves a lot of improvisation. Here you will have the opportunity to learn and participate in this ancient art together with the Iberi Choir.

Iberi Choir started in 2012 and sings songs in the different Georgian styles. The eastern traditions with a bass drone and two lead voices singing melismatic sounds while the western traditions are more complicated harmonically where the bass improvises together with the two brighter voices. In other regions we find a very special yodeling technique; krimanchuli.

They really enjoy involving the audience in their song and want to open up the song to a larger audience.
